Getting enough sleep is essential for your health in many ways, it heals your body and helps your brain the next day with things like focus and memory. I have found that on days that I don't get enough sleep it becomes harder to do things the next day. I have also found that my brain works better at night. At night, I feel more motivated, and I can accomplish a lot more. Because of this, I tend to do a lot of work at night, and that makes it harder to fall asleep. I have found that as a society in America, we tend to do a lot of work and get minimal amounts of sleep. This was different when I went to Scotland. There everything closed much earlier, even though it was light throughout the whole night. Therefore I believe that working less gives people more time to sleep and that it would improve happiness by a lot. I try to go to sleep early, but as I have gotten older, I have gotten more and more work, especially on the computer, this stimulates my brain into thinking it morning, which makes it much harder to fall asleep at night and gives me less sleep, which makes it hard to work the next day. As a society, I think we need to find the balance between work and rest. In class, we learned that eight out of ten dreams are bad, and are mostly of failing to do something, being attacked or rejected, etc. I believe that our work habits have a big influence on our dreams. After people have worked long hours they go to bed thinking of things they need to do, things they did wrong and the past day in general, and that influence's their dreams. I have found whenever I am working on something a lot before bed, and I think about that when I’m going to bed, I dream about that at night. I think that is part of our two-track mind, that we weave in things from our previous day, our anxieties, fears and, things we are thinking about, while also monitoring the environment around us. I find sleep and dreams very interesting because no one knows why we dream. Learning about dream theories and the different stages of sleep help us explore our brains and what they do to function properly. I think that it is essential because letting our minds rest helps us function better and become better people, and it is important to understand how it works. I also think that dreams are interesting because they are like stories that run through our head at night and are very real, and they show how our minds are always looking for connections to make sense of patterns. Learning about our sleep is essential to psychology because it is essential to understanding how our brains work.
