The scientific method has always been familiar to me, being in a High Tech High school. In middle school we would create hypothesis and do experiments that helped us better understand the world around us. This gave us background information and experience for when we moved to high school where we began to learn more about the process and what it means. Because we learned this when we were young, I have always had this small background of knowledge of what the scientific method is and that has made me much more aware of the world. This led me to want to learn about how the brain works.I began to watch the brain games as I loved finding out how certain things trick your mind, and why we we do what what do. Because of that, since I was young, I have always had this dream to learn about the brain and become a therapist. I have never had much interest in science, expect for the science of the brain, and that all happened because, when I was young, I learned how to question the world around me, to create ideas about why things happen, and then find out what actually happened. Scientific Method has always played a role in my life even if I didn't know it and in High Tech High I have been able to develop those skills.
The brain is what causes you to be able to make decisions, feel emotions, and have dreams but more importantly it shapes you into who you are. It has been only recently that I began to realize that I have changed a lot, not just by gaining new knowledge, and experiences(which I have) but also by the influences my past decisions have had on me. For example when I was younger I wasn't very interested in anything, I had nothing I worked on passionately and got better at, and know that I am older I am feeling the effects of those earlier decisions. Now I have things that I am interested in that I wish I had spent the time on and because I didn't commit to much when I was younger, I have found that I have become much more committed now. The brain has always been interesting, to me, how little things change our brains, such as learning new things, meeting new people, having new experiences, and making decisions, but I had never really thought about how these things can affect us many years later, how relationships can change, our passions can change, and we can change for good or bad. These things make us who we are, and give us the ability to grow as a species. This is known as evolution, and while it is a big part of biology it is also a big part of psychology because the way we adapt and react to different situations gives us insight into who we are. Not only individually but also as a civilization. I find the topic of how we adapt and react to different situations especially interesting because it is something that individualized us as humans and connects us to other species. Being able to evolve is what allows species to outlive others, but being able to change as a society is what brought us here. We have come so far throughout the years, not evolving to survive but using our minds to thrive. Our perspectives have changed, our minds have changed, and we have changed as a whole. Being able to learn about ourselves, and our world is very important, but it is also important to be able to change, and I believe that is what our world is based on.
